Planning Window Treatments for New Construction Homes

At The Little Blind Shop, we love helping homeowners find the perfect window treatments for their spaces. In the past year, you’ve seen a lot of new construction in West and South Fargo. You’ve also noticed that most of the new construction homes have similar window treatments: blinds from the big box store. While this is an acceptable standard, it’s not good enough to sell a high-quality home or to live and grow with. A better option is here at The Little Blind Shop.

One of the most exciting projects we help with is selecting window treatments for new construction homes. The blank slate and abundance of choices can make the process overwhelming for homeowners, and we love to take that stress off their shoulders with our expert advice and trusted products. That’s why we’ve put together this handy guide to planning window treatments for your new construction home.

FACTORS TO CONSIDER

Privacy

  • Essential for: bedrooms, bathrooms, and rooms facing the street
Some rooms in your home will require more privacy than others. Bedroom windows and bathroom windows are the highest priority, of course. Don’t forget to consider what other rooms might need additional privacy, however.
  • Where are your neighbors? Even with a privacy fence, second-story windows may have a direct view into your home.
  • Are you close to a road? Homes close to busy streets will have a higher priority for privacy than those set further back.

Light Control

  • Essential for: bedrooms, home offices, and other rooms with tvs and computers
Rooms where you rest and rooms where you interact with digital devices require the most light control. Stray light reduces the quality of sleep and creates glares on screens and other surfaces that can harm your eyes. Consider the direction of the light, the time of day when light control is important, and what the purpose of the room is to decide whether window treatments with additional light control are right for you

Energy Efficiency

  • Essential for: rooms with an abundance of windows, sunrooms, any rooms with south-facing windows, and homes in very hot or very cold climates
  • Window glass allows in and traps heat during the summer and leaches out heat in the winter, making regulating the temperature in your home a constant strain on your heating and cooling systems and your wallet. All window treatments improve the energy efficiency of your home, but some do so better than others.

Motorization

Window treatment motorization is not an essential consider, but with the rise of home automation systems, it is still an important factor. Motorization systems come with a variety of power sources, including rechargeable batteries, plug-in cords, and hardwired systems. If motorization is right for you, we highly recommend choosing the convenience of a hardwired system, since it is much easier to incorporate in a new construction than it is to add afterwards.
